Mezze
Mezze is a contemporary Middle Eastern restaurant in Bonaire that interprets the authentic flavors of the Middle East with a modern approach.
The restaurant prides itself on using only fresh ingredients and preparing impeccable dishes daily in the spirit of sharing.
The soul of Mezze is the pita bread, which is baked to order in a wood-fired oven and accompanied by creamy and nutty hummus and the sizzling meat skewers grilled over charcoal. Mezze's menu offers small plates and encourages guests to sample the wide variety of cultural influences on Middle Eastern cuisine, such as Eastern Mediterranean.
Guests can relax and enjoy an abundant selection of Middle Eastern food, with a carefully selected wine list and impeccable sea views in Bonaire.
- CHEF
Food is about memories, culture and emotions, and that also applies to Mezze. Therefore, it is not just a restaurant, but a place that takes guests to Istanbul, Antioch, London and Santorini, where all memories and cultures are captured and processed in examples of Modern Middle Eastern cuisine.
An Antioch native, Chef Efe Canbazoglu is grateful for his early exposure to real cuisine. His family has been in the restaurant business in Turkey and Europe for more than fifteen years. This gave him the opportunity to spend long hours in the kitchen at an early age. At the age of seventeen, he left home to attend the prestigious culinary school, Le Cordon Bleu, in London, UK. Chef Efe spent most of his free time in the school kitchen and was sent by Le Cordon Bleu to assist at private events. After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu, Chef Efe was able to pursue the common dream of every chef: working for a three-star restaurant, The Dorchester Hotel in London, UK. Unfortunately, due to immigration policies, Chef Efe had to leave his dream job and London.
A few years later, Efe was fortunate enough to return to London to work with renowned New York Chef Seamus Mullen at the Sea Containers Restaurant of the Mondrian Hotel. Bonaire was initially just a holiday destination, but it inspired him and his father, Chef Ahmet Canbazoglu (co-owner/chef), to bring Middle Eastern cuisine to the island. Thus began their journey and they are excited to share their vision of a unique dining experience.
