Terramar museum
A new adventure awaits in the heart of Kralendijk. The recently completely renovated historic building is now home to the Terramar Historical and Archaeological Museum. This museum takes you on a journey through time and lets you experience the history of Bonaire and the Caribbean like never before.
Inside the Terramar Museum you will find spectacular exhibitions that guide you through 7,000 years of Caribbean and Bonairean history. Enter a world full of fascinating artefacts, listen to long-forgotten stories and discover the past from a different perspective. From Amerindian artifacts such as stones and shells to colonial objects such as tobacco pipes and slave shackles, the collection is both diverse and impressive.
The museum is managed by the Terramar Museum Foundation, whose mission is to show and promote the history and archeology of Bonaire and the Caribbean to a wide audience. This is done through permanent and temporary exhibitions, lectures, tours and other events. In addition, the museum facilitates research and provides a platform for both professionals and amateurs to give presentations on historical and archaeological topics.
Although the Terramar Museum started without its own collection, it is now rich in borrowed and donated objects from institutions such as the Florida Museum of Natural History, the St. Eustatius Center for Archaeological Research, and the National Archaeological and Anthropological Memory Management of Curaçao . Private individuals have also made valuable contributions.
